iPad mini to hit PCs hard: analyst

Apple is largely expected to unveil a new, smaller iPad tomorrow, a move one analyst predicts could further stifle an already struggling PC market.

Apple's new tablet, presumably called the iPad mini, will eat into sales of traditional notebook and desktop PCs, fueling a trend already put into motion by Apple's larger iPads and other, competing tablets, according to a research note from J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz.

"In our view, the iPad mini stands to target price-sensitive users and the e-reader crowd," Moskowitz wrote in the note, according to CNET. "Given the global economic uncertainty, we think price-sensitive users could gravitate toward an iPad mini instead of making a PC purchase."

Reports of a smaller-size iPad have been swirling for months, with Apple finally giving word of an Oct. 23 launch event last week. The new tablet is expected to tout a 7.85-inch display, downsized from the 9.5-inch display used in the three prior-generation iPads.

It's also largely anticipated to be thinner, but slightly more lower end than other iPads in terms of specs, lacking Apple's next-generation retina display and supporting only Wi-Fi, rather than 3G or 4G networks.

That said, Moskowitz predicts that these more midrange specs will move the new tablet to a lower price point than its predecessors.

"Our research indicates that the smaller size, absence of retina display, and less storage capacity underpin the base model's potential price point of $US249," he said.

The iPad mini's more mainstream price point, in addition to consumers generally refreshing their smartphone and tablets more frequently than their PCs, will only further sway buyers toward the new tablet, Moskowtiz continued.

If the iPad mini does, in fact, lure consumers away from more traditional PC purchases, it will deal a blow to an already weakening global PC market. Gartner reported this month that 87.5 million PCs shipped in the third quarter, marking a hefty 8.3 percent decline compared with same quarter last year.

The drop was attributed to a weak global economy, coupled with the fact that many consumers are reserving their PC purchases for those running Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 OS, set to launch on Oct. 26.

Stocks tumble amid earnings misses | Investing | Financial Post

The Toronto stock market tumbled more than 200 points Tuesday as commodity prices retreated amid U.S. earnings disappointments and a fresh round of worry centred on Europe?s debt crisis.

The S&P/TSX composite index fell 221.33 points to 12,182.21 with losses spread across all sectors while the TSX Venture Exchange lost 20.75 points to 1,287.66.

The Canadian dollar reversed early losses as the Bank of Canada said it was keeping its key rate unchanged at one per cent while keeping intact language warning that it will raise rates at some point.

The currency rose 0.11 of a cent to 100.86 cents US. It had earlier traded around 100.35 cents, its lowest level since early August, amid speculation that the central bank?s statement would take a less hawkish stance on raising rates.

Instead the bank maintained the key message of previous statements ? that there will need to be modest rate hikes ? with the slight modification that added ?over time? to the equation.

In a speech last week, Carney had omitted a statement that ?modest withdrawal of money policy will likely be required? ? leading observers to think the central bank was signalling a more definitive change to its policy.

?The key point is they have kept their mild tightening bias. There was just no prospect of rate cuts, that?s off the table. The only issue here is when they start raising rates,? said BMO Capital Markets deputy chief economist Doug Porter.

The bank also notes it will consider the health of the household sector in setting monetary policy, something it hasn?t done in previous interest rate announcements.

?In other words, how the growth in household debt shapes up in the weeks and months ahead will determine whether the bank starts raising rates or not,? added Porter.

There was also major acquisition news from the Canadian banking sector.

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY) confirmed it will acquire the Canadian auto finance and deposit business of Ally Financial Inc. The bank says its net cost for the deal will be about $1.4 billion but its shares got caught in the overall market downdraft and lost $1.70 to $56.90.

And U.S. discount retailer Target is selling its credit card portfolio to TD Bank Group (TSX:TD) for about $5.9 billion. TD also agreed to a seven-year deal to underwrite, fund and own the retailer?s future credit card and Visa receivables in the United States. TD stock shed $1.15 to $81.77.

U.S. markets were sharply lower in the wake of disappointments from Dow heavyweights DuPont and 3M.

The Dow industrials plunged 208.34 points to 13,137.55, the Nasdaq was down 30.41 points to 2,986.55 while the S&P 500 index fell 20.72 points to 1,413.1.

A number of the disappointing results including Dupont and United Technologies came from companies with operations across the globe and in many industries. The weak earnings and dwindling revenues have led to cost-cutting that will add to lost jobs in order to protect profits.

?The writing has been on the wall for a while,? said Peter Jankovskis, co-chief investment officer at OakBrook Investments LLC in Lisle, Illinois. ?It?s a very tough environment, tough to generate new revenues, so it shouldn?t be too big a surprise we are having people miss on that front.?

DuPont, another component of the Dow Jones industrial average, reported a lower-than-expected quarterly profit and announced 1,500 job cuts to offset falling sales around the world. Its shares tumbled 7.4% to $46.09 and pulled the S&P materials sector down 2.7%.

United Technologies Corp reported a 3.3% decline in third-quarter earnings and cut its sales forecast for the year, citing weak demand from airlines and an uncertain economy, sending shares down 0.5% to $77.46.

3M Co lost 3.1% to $99.65 after the diversified U.S. manufacturer cut its profit forecast for the full year as acquisition costs and a strengthening dollar hurt margins.

The three companies accounted for about 50 points of the decline on the Dow industrials.

Spanish borrowing costs rose after Moody?s downgraded five of the country?s regions, including economically important but deeply indebted Catalonia.

?We had gone through a period starting with (European Central Bank President Mario) Draghi?s announcement from the ECB that he would stand behind the sovereign debt where Spain?s situation had kind of faded from people?s view and it?s bubbling up again,? Jankovskis said.

The news was more positive from Canadian National Railways (TSX:CNR), which said after the close Monday it was maintaining its earnings growth outlook for 2012 despite anticipating a difficult end to the year due to a weak economy.

CN said it earned $664 million, or $1.52 per diluted and adjusted share, for the period ended Sept. 30., beating analyst estimates by a penny. But its shares were down $2.81 to $84.26.
Expectations for this earnings season were already muted with analysts expecting the first year-over-year drop since 2009.

Commodities weakened amid Moody?s move to downgrade five Spanish regions to below investment grade.

The base metals sector dropped almost three per cent as copper prices fell back with the December contract on the Nymex down six cents at US$3.56 a pound. Teck Resources (TSX:TCK.B) shed 90 cents to $30.43.

Oil prices headed lower with the December contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange losing $1.97 to US$86.68 a barrel as a major North American pipeline got set to reopen.

TransCanada is expected to soon restart its 3,380-kilometre Keystone pipeline, shut last Wednesday after tests showed possible safety issues. The pipeline carries about 590,000 barrels of crude per day from Canada to facilities in the U.S. Midwest. TransCanada shares (TSX:TRP) lost 57 cents to $43.35. The energy sector lost 2.35 per cent as Suncor Energy (TSX:SU) gave back 97 cents to $32.41.

December bullion gave back $14.60 to US$1,711.70 an ounce and the gold sector lost 2.45 per cent. Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) faded $1.12 to US$42.62.

Tech stocks also fell back with Research In Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM) down 16 cents to $7.49.

European bourses were also sharply lower with London?s FTSE 100 index down 1.4 per cent, Frankfurt?s DAX off 1.94 per cent and the Paris CAC 40 down 2.17 per cent.

Analysts at Credit Suisse said in a report Tuesday that ?roughly 25 per cent of the way through the U.S. reporting season, annual earnings per share growth is broadly flat.?

Of the 127 S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings through Monday, 61% have topped analysts? expectations, shy of the 62% average since 1994 and below the 67% average over the past four quarters.

Even more disconcerting to investors are top-line expectations. Through Monday morning 61% of companies having missed revenue expectations.

Overall earnings for S&P 500 stock index companies are expected to fall 2.4% in the third quarter from a year ago.

Some 33 S&P 500 companies are scheduled to post earnings on Tuesday.

Apple Inc shed 1.3% to $625.90. The company is expected to make its biggest product move on Tuesday since the iPad?s debut two years ago, launching a smaller, cheaper tablet into a market staked out by Amazon.com Inc and Google Inc.

Whirlpool Corp gained 4.4% to $90.11 after reporting a higher-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by price increases and tight cost controls. The world?s largest appliance maker raised its earnings outlook for the year.

The Federal Reserve?s policy committee is scheduled to begin a two-day meeting oninterest rates on Tuesday. The Federal Open Market Committee is likely to hold off from taking new action, ?opting instead to review the impact of last month?s easing of credit while keeping a low profile in the last gathering before the Nov. 6 general election.?

Movember 2012: Fighting Prostate & Testicular Cancer With ...

Hark!

That most virile of seasons is once again upon us. It is time for Movember.

For those of you who are new to the site, every November AoM takes part in an annual, month-long fundraiser called?Movember. Started in 2003, Movember is a yearly global charitable campaign that celebrates the mustache while highlighting and raising money for men?s health issues?specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and male depression. During the month of November, men grow a mustache and raise funds for charities like the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

We?re going to be celebrating Movember here on the Art of Manliness website by inviting readers to grow a mo during the month of November.?Last year the AoM Movember team raised over $49,000! I know we can top that goal this year. Ready to join us in the fight against prostate cancer? Here?s what to do.

How Movember Works:

1. Awesomely manly Aussie and Movember veteran?Shaun Daws?has started an?Art of Manliness team on the Movember site.?As team captain, he?ll be keeping an eye on the leader board and encouraging you along.

To join the Art of Manliness team, you must register on the Movember site.?You must register as a ?team member??so we can keep track of your progress. You can register for the AoM Movember team by clicking on one of the following links depending on where you live.

2.?On November 1,?you must start out clean shaven.?You will then commence the growing of your beautiful, hairy mustache masterpiece. You cannot shave your mo until Nov. 30, and you must adhere to the following grooming rules:

  • There is to be no joining of the Mo at the sideburns?that?s a beard.
  • There is to be no joining of the handlebars at the chin?that?s a goatee.
  • A small complimentary growth under the chin is allowed (aka The Tickler).

3. During the month, hit up friends and family to sponsor your mustache-growing and donate to the cause. Raise as much money as you can! Basically this is like a walkathon, but instead of getting people to sponsor you for doing laps in a windsuit, you get people to sponsor the growing of your manly mustache. It will be hard to restrain your friends and family from donating.

4. Shaun has created a?Movember Group?in the Art of Manliness Community. Join the group and encourage your brothers. Shaun will be posting news, pictures, and updates, and you should do likewise. Let everyone see how your stache is progressing!

5. If you don?t have the cojones to grow a mustache (or if you don?t have cojones, period) you can still?donate to the AoM Movember Team.?Ditto for those who, like me, already have an awesome mustache, and don?t want to shave it off.?

Men, this is your big chance to grow the mustache you?ve always dreamed of having but been too scared to attempt. The beauty of Movember is that during the early growing stage, the stage where the newly formed mustache?s appearance is so unsightly that men give up and shave, you have a ready and worthy excuse for why you look sort of skeevy. People will not only abstain from laughing at you, men will pat you on the back and women will kiss you with joy. Then, at the end of the month, when the awesomeness of your stache is in full bloom, people will be in such awe of your cookie duster that they will beg you not to shave it off. It?s win-win here, folks.

Show Your Art of Manliness Movember Team Pride With a T-shirt

After you sign up for the AoM Movember team, be sure to pre-order an official Art of Manliness Movember Team T-shirt. The fine folks at TankFarm Clothing will be donating $7 of every purchase to the Art of Manliness Movember Team. T-shirts will be shipped before the start of Movember, so you?ll have it during the month. It?s just another way you can support the battle against prostate and testicular cancer and help propel the AoM Movember Team to victory. Plus, it?s an excellent conversation starter and way to let people know why there?s furry caterpillar sitting on your upper lip.

Saddleback Leather Company Dopp Kit + Classic Shaving Gear + Art of Manliness Collection = One Awesomely Manly Prize

Besides being rewarded with a great looking mustache, the Art of Manliness team member who raises the most money for the AoM Team will also receive the following prize package:

Chestnut, medium-sized Saddleback Leather Travel Case

Saddleback?s Travel Case is the ultimate man?s dopp kit. Made with thick, full-grain boot leather, it comes with a 100 year guarantee. And packed inside this manly piece of tack you?ll find the following classic shaving gear:

Merkur Safety Razor

Badger Hair Shaving Brush

Art of Shaving Sandalwood Shaving Cream (my personal favorite)

Col. Conk Mustache Wax (for your new mustache)

Art of Manliness Collection Boxed Set

We?re also throwing in a signed edition of our Art of Manliness Collection. This vintage inspired cigar box contains both of our books as well as six coasters?bearing manly iconography and quotes.

Contest is open to men 18 years and older living in countries in which we?ve created an AoM Movember Team. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited.

I hope you will join us this year in this noble and charitable cause. Last year the AoM team came in 12th place in fundraising among all the teams in the US. Fire up your mustache-growing and help us move into the top ten this year! Onward mustached soldiers!

The Impact Of SEO Web Design On Your Online Success

seo, search engine optimization???? Technoreporter.com ? SEO web design is a concept which emphasizes great architectural design principles based on how the search engines determine relevance and site information. The design should be able to give out the information that the user is seeking and at the same time be easily navigable. This is part of search engine optimization because the SEO web design should also be able to satisfy robotic crawlers and spiders in their quest for information regarding the website and other data.
SEO Web Design and Site Optimization:
Search engine optimization is more than just a trend nowadays. It is used and applied by almost all sites on the internet that aim to make money and reach online popularity. Among the many strategies of optimizing a web site, SEO web design is one of the topmost priorities.
The impact of the design of the site on search engine robotic crawlers or spiders can help raise the ranking of the site. This is where SEO web design comes in. There are many ways to make the web site more attractive to robotic visitors and human visitors alike. Actually, spiders and crawlers from search engines do not mind the overall aesthetic value of the site. All these robotic crawlers need is the information it can get from the site. The tricky part is how to put relevant information in the site in order for the crawlers to properly index the site due to its relevance. SEO companies who specialize in optimizing web sites must also know how to put a site in front of others in order to bring it to the attention of the Internet users. The search optimizers who will handle your site must be able to know the right strategies to place the web site ahead of others in its field through accepted methods of optimization.
SEO web design is a competitive area where web designers, or what I prefer to call website architects, work hard to come up with ideas and designs that are aesthetically appealing and relevant at the same time. There has to be consideration for ease of getting around the website, being appealing to a wide range of visitors and finding the right place for the website. Making a a basic, visually appealing site is easy with the many technologic advances available today, the problem with these advances are that they are sometimes quite tricky to use thus making your website difficult to navigate in. SEO web design should be easy to use and friendly to both human and robotic browsers.
Easy navigational access can be done by making the pages of the site easy to navigate to and having easy to understand and use button or labels to click on. The pictures and images on your SEO web design should be just the right size and scale to enable users to see them promptly after clicking instead of taking a very long time to download. Waiting for images and other graphics to load can be off putting for most visitors and will eventually lead them to another site which is more optimized and easy to view. Even spiders and crawlers will give up on a site which is not easy to navigate and get into.
The overall appeal of the SEO web design should not only be focused mainly on the niche that it is targeted on but also for Internet users who might have stumbled onto the site. SEO web design should have a universal appeal even for the most specialized type of sites on the Internet. Some webmasters or website owners could opt for specialized SEO web designs and these can also be done with the targeted audience in mind. It will also benefit the site if it is indexed as it should be. You might want to have a specific SEO web design which is built around the entire concept of your site and this can add to the ranking if you are quite specific with what you aim to sell or market. If you are marketing a specific product or information, SEO experts can focus on this product or information and build the SEO web design around it.
Another aspect of SEO web design that needs to be considered is what your competition is doing. The saying, ?know your enemy? is the key here. You do not want to have the same boring marketing strategies as the competition. Why? Because it is a good idea to keep abreast with what they are doing and how well they are doing in this field. There are many site optimization tools that can help analyze and determine what is needed for the site. Hence, in regard to SEO web design process, content is one of the prime needs and tools of making the site rank high during searches. Finding out or identifying the right keywords to integrate into the site can be crucial in making the site among the top ranking ones. Keyword search tools and having keyword rich content and titles can help to optimize a site efficiently.
Blue Net Studio SEO article submission, directories submission and seo packages includes all the functionality needed to put your business online in a professional way, attracting new customers and retaining their enthusiasm with reliable access and navigation.
SEO web design experts should also bear in mind that there are web strategies that may be unacceptable for search engines. Using these underhand or black hat tricks to perpetuate a site in rank can cause the search engines to ban the site and also the SEO web design company that did the search engine optimization work for it no matter how well the SEO web design is.

How I Am Overcoming Food Addiction | Jinjee's Blog

Jinjee How I Am Overcoming Food AddictionWow!

It is over! The darkest hour is just before dawn ? truly. Yep, I guess I?m a rock bottom girl. Gotta touch ground before I can spring up. Or maybe I just like to push boundaries. How much can I get away with? Or to give it a positive spin, I?m just trying to get to know myself and my limits.

What happened this time? As you know I?ve been playing on the edge of addiction. I felt like it was OK because it was helping me to better understand food addiction, which would help me to share my recovery process with others. But recently from time to time things got so bad that I was operating in a fog and my work was starting to suffer.

So lately I?ve been saying ?I?m done being a wounded healer, done being an example of a struggling raw vegan even though I know it helps a lot of people to feel like it is OK to struggle. It is OK. But I?m ready to be an example of someone who struggled and made it through to a 100% raw vegan diet, which is where I want to be, because it feels best to me?.

And the teacher came when the student was ready. Barbara Gabriel, a marriage and family therapist, and raw vegan, came to our retreat and shared with me a ground-breaking new branch of psychology called Emotional Brain Training (EBT) based on the latest research in the field of brain science. I?ve been having weekly EBT sessions with her and now am part of a weekly EBT telegroup we put together. I had been wishing I could afford some kind of counselling as there were areas of my life that were just too confusing for me and that I felt a professional therapist could help me to sort out.

Another prayer answered! I?ve been practicing EBT for 3 months now and I am gaining tremendous clarity on these issues! I haven?t been totally diligent but it doesn?t matter. Whatever work you do to re-wire your brain is enough. It is becoming quite fun, and fascinating, feeling this new power to actually get some reins hooked up to this wild beast of an organ.

I say it is starting to become fun, because although at first my food addiction rapidly improved, it then got worse. Then it got worse than ever. And I thought maybe I?d have to give up EBT because it had opened up a Pandora?s box of issues and I was questioning whether I really had time to deal with them at this point in my life. Too big. Too much.

I was enjoying the clarity, the consciousness, the awareness, the feeling my feelings, the calmness that came from this. But then I was also experiencing some very dark, very numb episodes. These were triggered by shame regarding my food addictions, even though I espouse the credo ?No beating up on yourself?. I didn?t know what was happening. It was confusing. I tried to work the EBT tools during these times, with just a very little success I supposed.

But then the next day I?d feel great. And my addiction would be much lessened. And then Barbara told me that those inexplicable numb depressions were brain state 5?s, the reptilian brain state, where you are really in the worst emotional state possible. They happen to everyone but they can get more intense or happen more frequently when you are doing the EBT work. And that?s good because it is while you are in 4?s and 5?s that you can actually rewire your brain.

It is almost like EBT allowed me to really feel my lows more than I had before ? because it is teaching me to really feel my feelings. Previously, I was in denial or I?d escape with food. Even though I was still going to food, I was minimizing harm (part of one of the tools), and while I was eating I was also trying to practice compassion for myself (another of the EBT tools).

Even though I felt like I was not succeeding, I feel now that I did succeed. I definitely re-wired something while in that state, without even realizing it! Only now when I have been free of addiction for days do I believe and see that I have re-wired my brain to deal better with stress, to be more conscious of what I?m feeling, and to develop better habits. I?m earning the rewards of connection.

I believe now that rather than feeling my feelings and stating my feelings and seeing how true or not they were, I would eat. I would eat to avoid a brain state 5, or to numb it. But by really going through a brain state 5 more consciously, more fully, with food or without (because actually the food did not work to numb it this time!) I actually got something I needed out of that state.

Maybe I just needed to be in it ? because it was real. Maybe I just needed to know that I feel like complete crap about hiding my cooked food addiction from my kids, and about eating cooked foods while feeding them raw and admitting to myself how detestable I find myself for that. Maybe I had to have a talk with myself while in brain state 5 to get that information from myself. Yes, I think that is what happened.

One interesting thing about this work is that you put your emotions in to words, and by stating them you can see more easily what is true and what you are just making up.

I have to say I no longer expect to be done with my issues ? moods and behaviors ? permanently. I know I?m a work in progress, and always will be. And that?s OK. Like anything else, it is work. And it works if you work it.

Speaking of connection, I was realizing that I needed to be diligent about my prayer and gratitude practice to balance out the EBT work I was doing, which was basically learning to acknowledge negative emotions within me. And so this happened yesterday morning: I finally managed to have a great prayer on the beach. It was very connected. More connected than I?d been in a long time.

I?m sure the EBT was partially responsible for this. And it was so magical that I knew I wanted this connection all the time. And in that moment I knew that I wanted to keep the channels free of clogging food; food that clogged my small capillaries causing carpel tunnel and blurry eye-sight, and that also clogged my spiritual channels. Well, the spirit channels got clogged because my self-esteem would get too low (too gunky) to pray when I abused food.

I?m now having an amazing feeing of freedom. I had really become desperate, not even being able to imagine being free of my addictions, almost not wanting to be free. And I felt as though my spark had gone out. So I?m incredulous at the sudden and surprising freedom. I know I?m over it for now. But I need to prove that to myself by staying clean. Because now I?m feeling like I can have a little non-raw food without danger. But that could very well be an illusion.

I?m not going to say ?once an addict always an addict? and label myself like that. I?m not going to make that my reason for staying on the wagon. I will instead say that I desire to eat only foods that are alive and vibrant with life force energy and sparkly brightness to my toungue! And that is completely true ? not just an affirmation of my future intention ? This is now! This is real! This is the way I feel!

I?m so grateful for this feeling. I?m going to live! I?m going to be able to claim my mantle and do the work I?ve been positioned to do in the world! My heart could burst with happiness! :)

    In Joy!

11-year-old accused in Maine baby death arraigned

(AP) ? The youngest person to be charged with homicide in Maine in at least 30 years bit her nails and looked down during her first court appearance Monday.

The girl was charged at age 10 with juvenile manslaughter over the summer in the death of 3-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway, who was staying overnight in the girl's home in Fairfield in the care of the girl's mother.

The girl, now 11, entered a plea of "no answer" in District Court in Skowhegan. Her only other choices in Maine's juvenile system were "admission" and "denial." Maine District Court Judge Charles LaVerdiere ordered a competency evaluation for her.

The girl, who had her hair pulled back and wore glasses, looked down most of the time during the hearing, twiddled her fingers and occasionally bit her nails. When asked if she understood the conditions of release, she simply nodded.

The girl's mother called police early on July 8 to report that the infant was not breathing, authorities said. The infant, who was reportedly fussy, was sleeping in a portable crib in the 10-year-old's bedroom that night, said the infant's mother, Nicole "Nicki" Greenaway of Clinton.

The state hasn't released the cause of death, but Greenaway was told that her daughter ingested medication and was suffocated.

"They both need to go to jail," Greenaway told WZON radio before the hearing got under way Monday. "The need to wake up every morning and look at those bars and realize what they did."

Greenaway didn't talk to reporters after the hearing.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services, which removed the young suspect from the home, faulted the baby sitter for leaving the infant in the room with the girl. In a letter, an agency case worker said the 10-year-old had a behavior disorder that made her unsuitable for caring for the infant.

The Associated Press generally does not identify juveniles accused of crimes.

The state opted not to try the girl as an adult. If convicted as a juvenile, the maximum penalty is incarceration until age 21.

The girl's lawyer, John Martin, said he felt the manslaughter charge was "too harsh" given the girl's young age. The girl has been removed from her mother's care, but Martin declined to say where she was living.

LaVerdiere issued a special order warning that no recording device of any type was allowed in the courtroom Monday.

Marketing With Email And You ? Tips To Get The Best Bang For ...

Marketing With Email And You ? Tips To Get The Best Bang For Your Buck

TIP! Confirm that a subscriber wishes to receive your emails before completing the opt-in procedure. This will allow your customer to be sure that they want to receive mail from you.

Marketing via email began almost as soon as the Internet was created. While programs and spam filters are successful in blocking out unwanted messages from reaching someone?s inbox, e-mail marketing done correctly is beneficial to both the sender and recipient. Read on into this article for ideas you can use to enrich people?s lives and your own pockets.

TIP! Use social networks like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter along with your email efforts. This allows your customers to not only build brand awareness, but also to share your site with others in their social network.

It is wise to use SMS messages along with your emails. When these are utilized together, this is very effective for getting your readers all the knowledge that you would like them to possess. Text messages can heighten awareness of your brand.

TIP! When you offer your customers lots of options, you will have a much more effective email marketing business. Let your subscribers decide on the the number of messages they receive, how often they get them and what information they want to disclose.

Always include brand colors and logos in email marketing messages. Your customers will be familiar with your company?s traditional logos and will associate the colors and designs you use on your website with your business. Design emails that look similar to your website so people recognize your brand and understand where these emails came from right away.

TIP! Create your email list from people who have requested to receive it. Never purchase an email list.

Stay in touch with your customers by sending emails with special offers or coupons. Include a link on the email that tells them they can see it by following the link. The end of the email could tell them that they can save a lot of money by checking out your coupons.

TIP! Stay consistent. Always make use of the same company color and logo in your email.

Avoid sending more than one marketing email per week. Your customers are likely busy people who receive several messages every day. Sending emails too frequently makes it more likely that your customers will stop reading.

TIP! If your firm already uses its own branding, make sure you incorporate it into your email marketing campaign. Keep your color scheme consistent and be certain to include the unique logo for your company with every message you plan on sending out.

Do not send emails without getting permission first. Failure to do so can lead to you losing customers? trust and it will tarnish the reputation of your business. Spamming activities can also cause your domain or IP to be blacklisted by Internet service providers, which can definitely affect your business.

TIP! The importance of layout cannot be underestimated in e-mail marketing. You may be tempted to utilize graphical elements in your message, but it is often that case that spam filtering functions will block photos, animation features and corporate logos.

Always use Alt tags when you include images in your email. If the image does not load, the Alt tag will be helpful. The tag should appropriately describe the missing image. Include descriptions for any links contained in your email, as well.

TIP! Do not send emails that use images to convey the most important information. Most email clients that are out these days will filter out images automatically.

Use the information you already know to create a much better shopping experience. This means the purchasing form will already be filled in with their name and email address. This will make the purchase they?re making simpler to complete, leading to fulfilled sales.

TIP! Make your marketing emails more personal. You can do much more than merely using the recipient?s name in your message.

Your email communications should have calls to action. Tell your audience what you expect from them. When you include links, be sure to make them easily seen and even include instructions that cover how the links should be used. You might want to consider repeating links in your email so that they appear at the top, and then again at the bottom, of your notice.

TIP! If you keep track of your subscriber?s birthdays, be sure to send out a birthday email. It is easy to automate this birthday email process.

Remember, that many of your email subscribers will be reading your mailings on mobile devices, like smartphones. These devices have much lower resolution than computer monitors, so you will have less space to work with. Knowing the limits of these mobile screens will allow you to make emails that your users can read.

TIP! Stay up-to-date with your competitors by knowing what they?re doing in regards to email marketing. This can be done simply by becoming a subscriber to their email list.

It is vital that you develop brand recognition, even in the emails you send. That is why you must take time to build a great template that includes all of your sites primary features. That way, you can take advantage of immediate familiarity on the part of your audience.

TIP! Include calls to action when creating emails. You should explain to the recipient of the emails what it is that needs to be done.

Write concise subject lines. If your email subject is under 60 characters, you have a better chance of getting your customer?s attention. Long subjects can be distracting and put people off. Important information should be listed in the beginning, so attention is piqued.

TIP! One important tip that all email marketers should understand is that you should always keep your branding consistent. If you use a name, logo or design, try and continue using it on a regular basis, so it becomes recognizable to your customers.

Have a look at some examples of spam so that you will be aware of what to avoid doing. Make a new email and start posting it online and you will quickly receive spam. See what?s wrong with these emails and make sure you don?t make the same mistakes. Making sure that your emails differ significantly from those of spammers makes your brand seem more credible.

TIP! Resist the urge to send your customers more than a single marketing email each week. Chances are, your customers receive a ton of email everyday, just like you.

Make sure your customers opt in before sending them an email. When you send out unsolicited emails, you risk receiving mass amounts of complaints and becoming known as a spammer. This will result in unread emails and wasted marketing dollars. This can cause backlash against your profitability in the form of customers opting out of your email lists, and can even result in problems with your web-hosts and internet service providers.

TIP! Avoid spammy sales techniques, such as urgent messages that they need to ?Buy now!? Don?t use that approach. This will make you look like you are spamming them, which will in turn affect your business.

From time to time it is a good idea to change up the format of your emails. HTML is not the only way to convey your message, and an occasional plain text email can grab your customers attention. This can help your customers relate to you and your products.

TIP! Text only emails certainly have their benefits. Images take longer to load than a basic text message.

To get the best results, you should only send emails to those that have already given you prior permission. Emails sent to those who don?t want them will simply be blocked. Your email provider might blacklist you if they receive a number of spam complaints.

TIP! Always have a link for people to easily unsubscribe or opt out of your email list. Make it easy to find so that people feel comfortable about receiving your emails.

When sending follow-up emails to potential customers, consider including a testimonial or endorsement in the message. Something pointing out the immediate impact would be beneficial. The postscript at the end could let them know their order can be placed by simply clicking on the link below.

TIP! Every email should contain one clear message. You want to keep your customers from being bombarded with content in your emails, but you also don?t want to make them too simple and boring.

Make sure to notify your subscribers of the type of information that your newsletter will contain. Inform them about the typical content of your emails and the number of emails that they can expect to receive per week. New subscribers will know exactly what to expect from you, and won?t be shocked by the quantity of emails, or their content.

TIP! Always test the links you add to your emails. If customers are unable to see what you offer because your links aren?t working, the whole purpose of your email message is out the window.

As the article above has demonstrated, when you do email promoting correctly, the recipient doesn?t realize you are actually marketing. If the content in your emails is valuable, people will enjoy reading them. This will increase your brand recognition in a positive manner. Your customers are more likely to purchase products from someone who has provided them with valuable information for free. Use the e-mail marketing information you received in this article to help your business to gain success and increase profits.

Texas Tech wide receiver Alex Torres (86) catches a pass for a first down against TCU safety Chris Hackett (1) during the second half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in Fort Worth, Texas. Texas Tech won 56-53 in triple overtime. (AP Photo/LM Otero)

(AP) ? Seth Doege stood in the pocket and completed the pass to Alex Torres like he has so many times in practice. There was another throw in the second overtime that was pretty sweet, too.

Doege's career-best seven touchdowns passes came in a variety of ways, and No. 18 Texas Tech needed every one of them on Saturday.

Doege found Torres for an 8-yard score in the third overtime after tossing a 25-yard TD to Jakeem Grant on an unconventional play in the second extra period, helping the Red Raiders top TCU 56-53 in the first league meeting between the teams since 1995.

"I was hoping they'd call that play. We practice it over and over and over," Doege said of his final pass. "Torres does a great job of selling it and he did enough where I could fit it in there."

After the Red Raiders (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) blew a 10-point lead late in regulation, Doege threw for a touchdown in each of the three overtimes. The last one came after TCU had to settle for freshman Jaden Oberkrom's Big 12-record sixth field goal to start the final extra period.

"I thought Torres was covered, and I didn't think he was going to throw it," Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. "But he let go and put it in the perfect spot."

Texas Tech began the second overtime in a wildcat formation, with Doege lined up wide. Two other players touched the ball before it got to Doege in the backfield on a play they had practiced for three weeks.

"It was sweet to get to run it in a game," Doege said.

TCU (5-2, 2-2), the Big 12 newcomer, has lost consecutive home games in a single season for the first time since it dropped its final two home games of 1998. Two weeks ago, the Horned Frogs lost their first Big 12 home game to Iowa State.

"Welcome to the Big 12," coach Gary Patterson said. "I do believe this. I believe we proved we can play in it. Are we unhappy we lost? Yes, but it was a heck of a game."

It was the most combined points ever for Texas Tech, and the second-most for TCU.

Doege completed 30 of 42 passes for 318 yards, including a 6-yard TD pass to Eric Ward in the first overtime, and Texas Tech quickly became bowl eligible a year after its first losing season since 1992. The Red Raiders were coming off an impressive 49-14 victory over then-No. 5 West Virginia.

After upsetting third-ranked Oklahoma last season, Texas Tech followed with five losses in a row that ended a Big 12-record streak of 18 consecutive seasons of bowl eligibility.

"We made a lot of mistakes," Tuberville said. "But we've been working real hard for a game like this, to win a game when you don't play your best."

And the Red Raiders almost let this game slip away.

Tech led 36-26 when Kenny Williams busted loose for a 47-yard touchdown run with 4:06 left in regulation. That came after TCU was held to a three-and-out following Doege's 8-yard TD pass to Torres and 2-point conversion.

Trevone Boykin threw a 60-yard TD pass to LaDarius Brown with 2:25 left before the Frogs failed to recover an onside kick. But they held to Tech to 1 yard before a punt, setting up a nine-play, 56-yard drive capped by Oberkrom's 42-yard field goal with 18 seconds left.

Boykin, the redshirt freshman who this month replaced second-year starter Casey Pachall, was 26 of 44 for 332 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

TCU had the first shot in overtime, and Boykin threw an 8-yard TD pass to Josh Boyce on the fourth play. Ward's third TD catch tied it again. He finished with six catches for 61 yards.

After the wildcat score to start the second overtime, Boykin responded with a 7-yard TD pass to B.J. Catalon.

Skye Dawson had 10 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown for TCU, a 19-yarder less than 2? minutes into the game.

The Red Raiders were down 17-7 before two touchdowns in a span of just over 3 minutes in the second quarter. They surprised TCU with an onside kick that led to the second score in that span after a replay review overturned an official's ruling of incomplete pass.

Moore had a 33-yard touchdown catch even with defender Kevin White right with him. That was only three plays after Moore was called for offensive pass interference when he pushed off the same cornerback to make a catch, the penalty wiping out a nearly 25-yard gain to the TCU 22.

Ward was initially ruled out of bounds after making a leaping 29-yard grab and then falling down on the far side of the end zone. But officials reviewed the play, which showed Ward's right elbow had landed in the end zone before the rest of his body came down on the line for a score that made it 21-17.

"We played a Tech team that was 5-1 and we lost by three points in overtime," Patterson said. "They made one more play than we did."

Buying or Selling Real-estate ? Recommendations on Real Estate ...

Posted on Saturday, October 20th, 2012

I have placed a real house license along with been an entire time broker in the express of Il for many years now and I adore what I accomplish. Yes, during this straight down market, My partner and i still have fun. People nevertheless need areas to live. Using the market operate is although, there are lots more rental along with rent to obtain properties when compared with there were some time ago. And that is not likely to change any time soon. The market will be ripe for anybody wanting to spend money on real estate with what will turn out be the most lucrative time to purchase in a very, number of years. But there are things to watch out for, whether you?re buyer as well as seller, as well as want to be an investor Wood Ranch real estate .

To the Consumer or Vendor ?

Warning Emptor, let the caution. There?s a valid reason for that phrase, there?s a lot of truth in it. A high level buyer as well as seller, you need to be very careful when approached through someone stating they are an investor. They do not have your best interest at heart, regardless of what they say. These are looking to generate profits on the acquiring and or marketing or renting of residence. They are not a representative and reply to no regulatory agency Agoura Hills real estate . They are not your Broker and do not must pay back you just about any obligation other than to recognition the contract they will enter into along with you, which may as well as may not be a good deal for you. Confident, if they?re engaging in licensed property activities with out a license, they are often subject to charges. But that wont stop you from obtaining screwed. Therefore beware. A strategy to adhere get someone to handle your case, either a real estate agent or lawyer, or equally. You may as well as may not, lawfully, have to have a property attorney in your state. In my express, Illinois, it can be optional for buyers as well as sellers to possess one. But additionally, in Il, real estate brokers cannot act as legal counsel, only as a possible agent. So it is recommended that you offer an attorney, though it?s not necessary.

    To the Entrepreneur ?

Periodically, I run across individuals who declare they want to purchase ?wholesale?. They illustrate a process exactly where they make a deal to purchase the peace of property. And then once underneath contract, they will procure a good ?investor buyer? for their acquire contract. They generate their money purchase charging their particular buyer the finders price.

There are a few things a would be investor ought to be wary of. Each and every state offers licensing laws, and certain things require a professional license. Like a doctor, a lawyer, an accountant, an actual estate dealer are all fine examples of this specific.

Section 1-10 with the Illinois Real Estate License Take action of Year 2000 defines numerous called licensed activities for the broker. Below are a few excerpts from Section 1-10:

?Broker? means someone, partnership, LLC, firm, or signed up LLP who, whether or not in person as well as through just about any media as well as technology, for compensation, as well as with the purpose of acquiring compensation, sometimes directly as well as indirectly:

Sells, exchanges, purchases, rents as well as leases property.

Offers to sell, exchange, acquire, rent as well as lease property.

Negotiates, gives, attempts, as well as agrees to negotiate the selling, exchange, acquire, rental as well as leasing of real estate.

Helps or guides in acquiring or mentioning of prospects or prospective customers, intended to resulted in sale, exchange, lease as well as rental of real estate.

Currently, I?m not a lawyer nor does I enjoy one on television, or does I live in a Holiday Motel Express last night. But when an investor is looking for the buyer with the contract they have, they may be cloths the law really dangerous method. A slip of the tongue, say the wrong word, and it could be very costly for them.

Men and women wanting to make investments should do this. They should buy it and carry it as accommodations property, as well as buy it, fix it up, and sell the idea. I would not advise buy/fix/sell though with the current economic market unless of course you?re having the property unbelievably cheap. Reselling is hard, unless of course you?re nicely below market value. To be an investor, you don?t have to offer an agent. It is legal for anyone to signify themselves in a transaction with out a license. They only can?t signify someone else without. For those individuals that wanting to ?wholesale? ? sell property contracts, I propose checking using your state regulatory agency along with finding out how close you are to violating laws. And you will want to consider having the appropriate license.

    What really happened in Benghazi?

Well, I still have no idea. But apparently a mastermind has been named.

    By Dan Murphy,?Staff writer / October 18, 2012

In this Sept. 14 file photo, Libyan military guards check one of the burnt out buildings at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, during a visit by Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif to express sympathy for the death of American ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and his colleagues in the Sept. 11 attack on the consulate.

Good news ? we'll soon know the full truth of what happened on Sept. 11 in Benghazi, how the attack was planned, and how many were involved. Right?

Well, I remain skeptical. While I haven't been in Benghazi in a year and a half, I've been communicating with reporters and friends there off and on for the past few weeks and there are many divergent stories from eyewitnesses, rival militia leaders, and Libyan government officials eager to project an air of stability and authority.

The fact remains that Libya is a complex, chaotic place. While it has had a national election, its national institutions are nominal, at best. The country is overrun by militias in the absence of a strong and respected police force or national military. Members of the nascent government and bureaucracy have divided opinions, loyalties, and personal interests. Metric tons of salt should be applied to almost all claims that are made from Libyan "officials," even more so when they aren't identified by name.?

For today, the blame is being pointed at Ahmed Abu Khattala who, the LA Times and other outlets report ? citing unnamed Libyan officials ? was an Islamist militant who did time in prison under former leader Muammar Qaddafi and was a leader in the Abu Obeida brigade, an Islamist militia that fought in the uprising.

The Abu Obeida brigade has been one of the groups blamed by various officials at various times for the July 2011 assassination of Gen. Abdel Fatah Younes, a Qaddafi regime enforcer who had defected to the rebellion. At various other times various others have been blamed. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Younes's murder were murky, complete with conflicting, contradictory accounts of who was responsible and why they did it. Rivalry? Revenge taken by former prisoners who had suffered at Abu Salim prison in Tripoli when Younes served Qaddafi? A government assassination? All were claimed. (Revenge by an Islamist group was always the explanation I favored.)

But it doesn't appear the name "Ahmed Abu Khattala" has come up before, at least not in any English language reporting. Plenty of others have been blamed in the past.

"Ahmed Abu Khattala" really could be the guy, of course. But would that, by itself, tell us much? (For what it's worth, Reuters interviewed Abu Khattala, who said he was at the consulate that night but denied being part of the attack.)

Blame has been pointed by some Libyan "officials" in the past few weeks at an Islamist militia called Ansar al-Sharia ("Helpers of Islamic law"). But the Obeida Brigade is thought to be a far more hardline Islamist takfiri jihadi group, basically in Al Qaeda's ideological wheelhouse ("takfir" refers to the practice of branding Muslims who don't agree with them as apostates, and therefore lawful targets for murder, a popular Al Qaeda tactic.) Ansar al-Sharia is claimed by some in Benghazi to be not that extreme (though I search in vain for any reporting or papers that seem definitive about the group).?

To be sure, it's quite possible that there's no formal group behind the murders at all. Alliances and ideological tastes shift and evolve. Perhaps Khattala and a group of like-minded men from various militias got together to attack the US consulate. It's not as if there's command and control by leaders of any of these organizations.?

Heck, I'm not even clear on the background of The February 17 Brigade that the US was paying to guard the consulate, but more on that later.

Cholera discovery could revolutionize antibiotic delivery

ScienceDaily (Oct. 19, 2012) ? Three Simon Fraser University scientists are among six researchers who've made a discovery that could help revolutionize antibiotic treatment of deadly bacteria.

Lisa Craig, Christopher Ford and Subramaniapillai Kolappan, SFU researchers in molecular biology and biochemistry, have explained how Vibrio cholerae became a deadly pathogen thousands of years ago.

    V. cholerae causes the diarrheal disease cholera, which is endemic in many developing countries and can emerge in regions devastated by war and natural disasters. An outbreak following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti has killed at least 7,500 people.

Two genes within V. cholerae's genome make it toxic and deadly. The bacterium acquired these genes when a bacterial virus or bacteriophage called CTX-phi infected it.

The SFU researchers and their colleagues at the University of Oslo and Harvard Medical School propose that a Trojan horse-like mechanism within V. cholerae enabled CTX-phi to invade it.

The CTX-phi latches onto a long, hair-like pilus filament floating on the surface of V. cholerae. The filament then retracts, pulling the toxin-gene-carrying CTX-phi inside the bacterium where it binds to TolA, a protein in the bacterial wall.

The process transforms V. cholerae into a deadly human pathogen.

The Journal of Biological Chemistry has just published a paper written by the researchers describing the atomic structures of the CTX-phi protein pIII alone and bound to V. cholera TolA.

The authors recommend that pilus filaments be explored further as a transport mechanism to deliver antibiotics into a bacterium.

"We'd be exploiting the pilus retraction mechanism to introduce antibiotics directly into a cell, bypassing its outer membrane barrier," explains Craig. The SFU associate professor is an expert on the role that pili play in bacterial infections.

"We do have antibiotics for V. cholerae, but these antibiotics also kill beneficial bacteria in the gut. The idea of using pili as a Trojan horse for antibiotic delivery is new and allows us to specifically and effectively target a given bacterial pathogen."

Craig says her team's discovery of V. cholerae's retractable pili is made all the more exciting by the simplicity of its workings. "We know that other deadly bacteria have retractable pili but it'll be much easier to isolate how the mechanism can be used to uptake antibiotics in Vibrio cholerae."

Craig says using pili as an antibiotic delivery mechanism to treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a deadly bacterial respiratory infection that hits mainly people with Cystic Fibrosis, could save many lives.

Christopher Ford is a research associate in Craig's lab. Subramaniapillai Kolappan, one of Craig's master's students, recently graduated from SFU.

WA apple farmers may see boon from bad weather

SEATTLE (AP) ? First, warm spring weather in the Northeast and Midwest tricked apple trees into budding earlier. Then an untimely frost damaged the delicate blossoms.

For apple farmers in producing states like New York and Michigan, this has been a forgettable year, with severe declines in production of as much as 90 percent.

But it is amounting to a boon for Washington state growers, who are already in the midst of a near record harvest, and now looking forward to higher demand and prices for their produce.

"If we can get this fruit harvested, it's a perfect storm for Washington," said Todd Fryhover, president of the Apple Growers Association. "We could have a banner year for returns and profitability for our industry, but only time will tell."

Washington is likely to have a harvest of 108 million bushels, its second highest number on record, industry representatives said. A bushel is a 40-pound box of apples.

The main variables still looming: a possible shortage of pickers and unpredictable weather at the end of the harvest season.

Usually, Washington's apple farmers need about 40,000 workers to harvest their huge crop, said Kirk Mayer of the Washington Growers Clearing House Association. This year, Fryhover said, growers are reporting a shortage of roughly 10 to 15 percent shortage.

On a brighter note, this year's summer has been "perfect" with warm temperature and spring was mild with nearly no frosts, Fryhover said. "We're seeing our fruit's sizes get larger as harvest continues."

Just north of Wenatchee in central Washington, Orondo farmer Tom Auvil saw his orchards produce about a third more than expected. But he also was one of the farmers who got hit by hail earlier this spring and his workers had to use masks for weeks while a wildfire filled the area with smog. This year it's shaping up to be a wash for him.

"Our industry is looking at capacity, folks are pretty anxious to ship fruit," said Auvil, who runs a relatively small operation at 50 acres. "You can't necessarily get over excited about pricing when you have a bountiful of fruits. But prices do look favorable."

Washington is the behemoth of the industry and could for 65 percent all the apples grown in the country this, up from its usual 50 to 60 percent range.

Nationally, the U.S. Apple Association projects the apple harvest will go down by 10 percent compared to last year to about 200 million bushels. Because the national crop is smaller, apple prices at retail are expected to be higher across the country, industry officials said.

"Growers are getting a bit more per bushels from the packers and shippers," said Mark Gedris, U.S. Apple Association spokesman.

New York harvested 30.7 million bushels last year, but will see less than half of that this year if estimates hold. Michigan, which has seen fluctuation over the past five years ? saw a sharp drop, down to less than 3 million bushels this year from 28 million last year, according to grower associations.

Canada and Mexico are also not harvesting at top capacities, Fryhover said, putting Washington in a unique position.

Generally, Washington apple farmers prefer selling their product to the fresh market, which brings higher returns.

This year's bad harvests in New York and Michigan could mean that Washington farmers could sell more of their apples to the processed and juice industries, which buy apples that are not savory enough for the fresh fruit market. On an average year, Michigan may sell about 60 percent of its harvest to the juice industry, Smith said.

Prices of the juice and processed market, however, are less than for the fresh market.

"There will be more apples shipped from Washington to processing on the East Coast than we've ever seen before," Mayer said.

The processed market can also look to Pennsylvania, which saw a healthy harvest, or Virginia to make up for the void left by New York and Michigan, said Gedris.

If apples aren't picked for the fresh market, growers have the option of leaving the fruit on trees, selling it at lower fresh market prices, or the juice market. But those options have to at least cover the costs of picking the apples, Mayer said.

About 20 percent of Washington's harvest usually goes to the juice and process markets, Mayer added. Of the fresh harvest, about a third is exported while the rest stays in the country.
